Theme London Underground
Layout Guide Built to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of London Underground. The chosen subject was an underground station with some history in-as-much that it is now dis-used. Aldwych was opened on 30/11/1907 and finally closed on 30/09/1994. During WW-2 the station was closed and used as an air-rad shelter for 6 years. Initially build as a twin track line by 1917 it was only used as a single tracked line. The two station entrances are still there as built when first opened 1907. The Basildon layout depicts the short run between Holborn and Aldwych, with the overground scenery of the mid-50's period modelled. It is currently used as a museum and occasionally used for art exhibitions and book signings; with filming of some TV shows and cinema films. The most recent film was the James Bond film SKYFALL.
